Biography
Thierry Henry is a French footballer who plays for New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer. Thierry began playing with his hometown club, Les Ulis and will later join Monaco in the French league. Under the guidance of Arsene Wenger he will develop into a winger where he will score 3 goals in 18 matches.
A year later he will win the 1998 World Cup with the French national team (he will finish the top scorer for the French) and this will attract the attention of Juventus. Thierry Henry will leave Monaco and join the likes of Zinedine Zidane and Didier Deschamps in Italy.
However he will find it difficult to play on the wing in Italy where the defenses are tighter than in France. Due to lack of playing time he will move to Arsenal where he will be reunited with his previous manager, Arsene Wenger. This time Wenger will use Henry as a striker and very quickly Henry will establish himself at the team. Indeed he will help the fans forget the departure of another French striker, Nicolas Anelka and he will become the best Arsenal scorer with 226 goals in 369 games.
At that moment, Henry was enjoying tremendous success. He will win the Euro 2000 with the France team. However the French team will be eliminated at the group stage in 2002 when everyone was expecting Henry to replicate his form with Arsenal at the international level. In Euro 2004 Henry will also be in the French team that will be eliminated by Greece in the quarter-finals.
He was also part of the team that went all the way to the final in the 2006 World Cup. His great performance during the competition allowed him to be nominated for the Golden Ball award.
In 2007, Henry will leave Arsenal and join the likes of Ronaldinho, Lionel Messi and Samuel Eto’o in the Liga. This transfer to Barcelona sounds like a new beginning for Henry who could finally win a single title that is missing: the Champions League.
With Samuel Eto’o and Lionel Messi, the French will create a formidable trio that will allow Barcelona to score numerous goals.
The 2009-2010 season will be disappointing for Henry although Raymond Domenech will take him to the World Cup. In his club, he will score few goals and will be on the bench for much of the season. To make matters worse he will be subject to a lot of critics after the goal he scored to put France in the World Cup. Indeed he will use his hand to control the ball before passing the ball to Gallas to score.
